Week 1 ~ Psalm 119:1-8

Week 1 ~ April 22, 2020

First, I would like to remind you that YOU my dear friend . . . YOU ARE LOVED!

Not only by friends and family, but by the very one who created YOU! The Bible say that BEFORE you were formed in your mother’s womb, that GOD KNEW YOU . . . Jeremiah 1:5  Just seeing and knowing that should make you smile.  The creator of the universe knows you. HE KNOWS YOU. 😊 The Bible tells us that God knows us so well that the very hairs on YOUR head are all numbered. Luke 12:7  (I wonder if He keeps track of how many fall out. LOL. Because after a shower I have a lot of hair that seems to fall out, but it must be growing back, because I don’t have any bald spots.  At least that I know of 😊. Random thought.) 

Let me encourage you today that YOU my dear friend are LOVED!!!  I know right now many of you are feeling disconnected due to what is going on in our world right now, but you truly are not alone. We all are experience the this together, and no, none of us really know how to handle it. But I know the only one that can get us through it. That person is Jesus Christ. If you haven’t truly wholehearted but all of your trust and faith in Him, now is the time!  Now is the time to turn the TV off a little more and pick up your Bible and let’s have a daily devotional.  Those that went to “The Secret Place” retreat, if you haven’t used your “Life Journal”, or maybe started and stopped. (I’ve done that before.  It’s okay.)  Pull that out, or just grab yourself a notebook of some sort, doesn’t have to been fancy.  I thought we could go through Psalm 119. It’s a pretty long chapter with 176 verses, we will dig in with only a few verses at a time so it’s not overwhelming. 

Day 1: Psalm 119:1-8

Use whatever translation of the Bible you like. Here is some helpful suggestions on how to do your daily devotional.  (It’s more than just reading a scripture.  It’s communicating with God.)

1. Before you begin ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what the scripture is saying. John 16:13 says that “He will guide you into all truth”.
2. Write out the scripture at the top of your notebook.
   • Take time to slow down and prayerfully READ the passage, allowing the Holy Spirit to grab hold of your attention.
3. Pay attention and observe ALL the details, people, places, and truths that are going on in the passage. Write out these observations, no matter how basic they seem. A good question to ask is “What’s the original message intended for the original audience?”
4. Keep praying and listening to the Holy Spirit as He specifically applies that passage to YOUR life today. He may give instruction, encouragement, reminders of promises, or corrections for a particular area of your life.  What’s the ONE THING He is highlighting for you to change or think differently about as a result of this passage?
5. Write out a prayer. This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this passage in your life. Or it may be a request that He provide greater insight into what He has been revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!
